WOO HOO – Here we are…Living 2026!
How will it unfold?
I’m questioning more than ever within this human experience the difference between perpetuating belief conditions & habits, consistent patterns of thought & the intuitive rise of insights including their somatic sensations. Within my curiosity about these witnessings (& at times engagings) is a trust that our “purpose” is simply to evolve. How I evolve is (ultimately) my choice!
Recently, a compassionate sacred rage arose in me when I saw that a National day of mourning was already proclaimed for our Jewish brothers & sisters (& rightly so), yet the Australian Government has never given our First Nations brothers & sisters & their Ancestors a National day of mourning!
Seriously humans: let’s do better!
A fire arose in me in advance of the traditional Chinese New Year of the Fire Horse which starts Feb 17th ! Symbolically this equine galloping energy is believed to bring about major changes that break old patterns and inspire new growth.
Well, the smouldering fire of truth seems to want to burn a new offering throughout Global Contact’s Year…To raise awareness & follow the patterning & guidance of the D’harawal seasonal calendar instead of the habitually used 12 month roman calendar. The D’harawal calendar was developed by the Traditional Custodians of the lands upon which Global Contact Bookstore stands. It reflects thousands of years of acute environmental observation.
No, I am not privileged to have any Australian Indigenous blood running through my veins. I do LOve every step I take upon this Australian soil. I do relish the foods I eat & are grown within this Land’s dirt. And the swims & floats I take within the pristine waters of the South Coast simply take my breath away as they cool & recalibrate the reactive smouldering fires that rise from within me.
I am so grateful & aware of the privilege that has been Graced to me to continue be the custodian of Global Contact Bookstore after 20+ years.
So this year our Enewsletters will feature & explore the D’harawal Seasons. The first one being the time of Burran – which runs from January to March.
Male kangaroos become quite aggressive in this season. It’s a sign that eating meat is forbidden during this time. This is a health factor because the heat means meat doesn’t keep and there’s a risk of food poisoning. The blooming of the weetjellan (lightwood) is an important sign that fires must not be lit unless they are well away from bushland and on sand only. It’s also a sign that there will be violent storms and heavy rain, so camping near creeks and rivers is not recommended.*
As I write this it is 36 degrees! And we all know there’s been ‘kangaroo’ fighting on the streets of Sydney (and beyond). This definitely feels a time to be vigilant and work with the elemental forces, to heighten our awareness & make wise choices. I choose to align with the strength, healing qualities, lightness & fragrance offered by the flowering weetjellan.
I wonder what arises for you as you experience & contemplate Burran…
