Wisdom Untethered – by Michael A Singer – Book Review

If you keep letting go of what you are not

you will naturally settle into what you are.

Wisdom Untethered

When I heard that one of my favourite  living spiritual teachers & writers – Michael A Singer had written another book  I didn’t really think there was anything new for him to say or for me to learn – but I was wrong – VERY wrong!

It could be argued that Michael isn’t saying anything “new”, but the way this book has been written it makes his “old” teachings and guidance very practical and relatable for all of us who still  get caught up in the drama of life and lose our centre /sense of peace/ connectedness – and therefore our ability to hear (and act upon) our inner Wisdom.

I resisted reading the book because I thought there’s nothing new to learn. But luckily Life nudged me to read it by being asked to review the book 🙂

From the beginning, in his Preface, Michael engaged, challenged & inspired me:

“Ultimately, life itself is asking you a single question: Are you willing to let go?

and continued to say:

As you engage with the questions in this book, you will find your own answers arising from the seat of awareness within you.

That is where true wisdom is found—untethered by the mind, untouched by circumstance, and waiting to be discovered.

All you have to do is be willing to let go.

Why was I challenged and inspired? Because I realised that even though I feel I have made progress on the spiritual path, there are areas of life where I do still find it hard to let go.

But when I saw that the book was a compilation of 200 questions posed to Michael clustered into topics – honestly, it didn’t excite me. My preference was to hear directly from Michael – not reading about other people’s “stuff”.

The irony is that Michael’s question “Are you willing to let go?” encouraged me to see that this in itself was a fixed belief  & preference! Was I willing to let go of that?

I was and did and I encourage you to do the same.

The question and answer format makes it very real and relevant and most of all – practical. Reading real life challenges and Michael’s answers helped me reflect on my life and challenges and how I could apply Michael’s guidance.

Michael reminded me (with many examples throughout the book) that being presented with opportunities to let go IS the path!!  By reflecting on what I was reading,  I saw that I still sometimes believe it’s the challenges which block me – but actually it is me ( or more specifically the story of me) who blocks me.

Intuition and wisdom are, essentially, one and the same – the deep knowing and guidance which is quietly available when the noise of stories, beliefs and fears drops away.

I enjoy all Michael’s books – and  I would recommend you to read any of them if you have’t already.

If you have read any of his other books – Wisdom Untethered is a bit like a driver’s manual put together by answering questions from people who aren’t quite sure how parts of the car works. The book is compiled in a way you can read from beginning to end, or choose a part or a chapter that’s resonating with you at the moment.

If you’re reading this  blog – perhaps it’s a message from Life to (continue to) untether your Wisdom. Living with untethered Wisdom in these pretty crazy times allows us to live with inner peace, creativity and balance. And as Michael reminded me:

When you reach a certain state of inner peace your very presence helps others.
